Parada del Rey from Miraflores de la Sierra

Parada del Rey from Miraflores de la Sierra

Parada del Rey is a quieter Miraflores walk. You start at Fuente del Cura, climb through oak and pine (Monte Aguirre), and come out at a meadow with big old oaks. The views drop toward the reservoir, with the Perdiguera ridge in front of you.

It's marked as SL-02 locally. Not a summit day. More of a forest loop with a clear payoff at the meadow. Good when you want Guadarrama air without committing to a high pass.

Quick facts

  • Start / finish: Fuente del Cura recreation area, Miraflores de la Sierra
  • Highlight: Parada del Rey meadow and the Doce Hermanos oaks
  • Distance: about 10 to 11 km loop (official SL-02 is around 10.6 km)
  • Time: roughly 3 to 4 hours
  • Climb: around 400 m
  • Feel: easy to moderate. Forest tracks, some steeper bends in the pine

The walk

From Fuente del Cura, follow the Muñequilla path past Fuente de la Villa into the oak woods. Early on you share the start with another local trail (SL-03). When they split, stay right for Parada del Rey.

You pass into Pinar de Aguirre, wind up a reforestation track, then join the Mostajo forest road. Later you pick up the Cordel de la Morcuera and arrive at Parada del Rey. Sit a minute if you want. Then drop east through the Raya oakwood back to the asphalt near where you began.

Waymarks help, but junctions can feel busy. An offline map is worth it the first time.

How to get there from Madrid

By bus

Take bus 725 from the Plaza de Castilla interchange (Intercambiador de Plaza de Castilla). Ride to Miraflores de la Sierra and get off in the village (Centro Social / Guardia Civil stops, depending on the bus).

Fuente del Cura is on the edge of town, a short walk from the centre. Ask locally or follow signs for Área Recreativa Fuente del Cura. No need for a taxi to the pass on this one. The trail starts in Miraflores itself.

Check 725 times before you leave. On busy weekends, morning buses can be packed.

By car

Drive to Miraflores de la Sierra and park near Fuente del Cura if there's space. Village parking fills on sunny Sundays.

Coming back

Walk back into Miraflores and take bus 725 to Plaza de Castilla. Easy logistics compared with Morcuera or Navacerrada.

What to pack

Normal hiking shoes, water, a light layer, sun cream. The forest keeps some shade, but open meadow bits can be bright. In wet weather the tracks get muddy.

Coffee in Miraflores afterward is part of the day. This is just a route note so you know what you're walking into.
